Lagos Life skills and traits: how to raise Charisma, Coding and the rest
Skills are the wall between you and every promotion in the Lagos Life game. There are 9 of them and 88 different actions that raise them, each carrying a rate the game never prints on screen. Here is the whole table — every action, its rate, how long it takes, and where you have to be to do it.

1. How skill gain actually works
Every skill-raising action in the game carries two numbers: a rate and a length in minutes. What you gain is:
gain = rate × hours spent ÷ (1 + 0.6 × your current skill level) × trait and mood multipliers
Three things fall out of that, and they explain most of what feels odd about progression:
- The same action gets worse as you level. At level 5 the divisor is 4, so a session pays about a quarter of what it paid at level 0. Grinding one action forever stops working, which is why the higher-rate actions start to matter later.
- Rate and length answer different questions. Session with a Coach (rate 3.0, 60 minutes) beats the Weekend Hackathon (rate 2.0, 240 minutes) on efficiency — but the hackathon still hands you the largest single chunk of Coding in the game. The tables below are sorted by rate.
- Skills stop at level 10. Promotion only ever asks for level 7, so the top three levels exist for achievements rather than for your career.
One thing to know before you plan a training routine: 39 of the 88 actions happen at home , need no venue and cost nothing. For most skills there is a free home action within a rounding error of the best paid one.

Charisma: 16 actions, ranked
Charisma is the busiest skill in the game. It gates 5 of the 14 careers — Banking, Content Creator, Teaching, Football, Retail — which is why "how to increase charisma" is the question people actually search for.

2. Which skill gates which career
Each of the 14 careers is driven by exactly one skill, and that skill is what stands between you and the next pay grade. The four gates are levels 1, 3, 5, 7.

Practically: 5 careers are gated by Charisma, Hustle covers three, Music and Fitness two each, and Coding and Cooking just one apiece. Since the game makes you pick a trait before you pick a career, Charisma is the widest door and it has the strongest free training action. Full pay ladders are on the careers page.
3. Traits that speed skills up
Your starting trait is permanent, and 6 of the ten carry an explicit skill multiplier. It is not a rounding bonus — it multiplies every point you ever earn for that skill.

The other four — Owambe Spirit, Lazy Bone, Clean Pikin, Night Crawler — change need drain, work performance or social outcomes instead of skill speed. They are not wasted, but they will not get you promoted faster. Traits are covered in context on the beginner walkthrough.
4. The other multipliers
Skill speed is not only your trait. Three more things stack on top of it:

They multiply together, so a LAPO Baby in a good mood is already at ×1.44 before any trait is counted. If you intend to climb a promotion ladder rather than just collect a wage, Fast Learner at 14 blessings is the reward to save for. It is the only entry in the shop's 14 rewards that speeds skills up — the rest change need drain, work performance, discounts or social outcomes, and none of them compound the way it does.
Frequently asked questions
How do I increase Charisma in Lagos Life?
Do actions that carry a Charisma rate. Practice Speech at home is the strongest free option at rate 1.3, and Spoken Word Open Mic at Freedom Park matches it for the same 45 minutes. Practising Presenting at Naija Radio House is close behind at 1.2, and Pitch Your Startup at CcHub is 1.0 for an hour.
What is the fastest way to raise a skill?
Session with a Coach at i-Fitness is the fastest single action in the game — rate 3.0 for one hour, clear of the best Charisma action (1.3) and the best Music action (1.9). For Coding, the Weekend Hackathon at CcHub is rate 2.0 but takes four hours, so it is a bigger single commitment rather than a more efficient one.
What skill level do I need to get promoted?
The four promotion gates are skill level 1, then 3, then 5, then 7 — one gate per promotion, each requiring performance at 100% alongside it. The last promotion wants level 7 of your career’s single skill, not level 10.
What is the maximum skill level?
Level 10. Gains stop at 10, which is why the Music skill achievement is to max Music out — level 10 is the ceiling, not the promotion requirement.
Why is my skill going up so slowly?
Two reasons. Every level makes the next one harder, because the game divides your gain by 1 + 0.6 × your current level — at level 5 an action pays less than a quarter of what it paid at level 0. And the action you picked may simply be weak: most rates in the game sit between 0.3 and 1.3.
Which skills have no career?
Dance, Comedy and Photography. Each has its own actions, rates and achievements, but no career is gated by them, so they never feed a pay ladder.
Do traits really change how fast skills grow?
Yes. Six of the ten traits carry a skill multiplier of either 1.5 or 1.6 for one skill, and it multiplies every point you earn for that skill for the whole run. A LAPO Baby start also gets a flat 1.25 on everything, and being in a good mood adds 1.15.
