Nepo Baby vs LAPO Baby in Lagos Life
Every Lagos Life account gets one permanent starting class, rolled at the end of character creation. Two outcomes are known and they are not close: one hands you ₦500,000 and a job two rungs up the career ladder, the other hands you a loan with a weekly repayment. Here is exactly what each one gives you. Every figure below is read from the game itself rather than estimated — including the loan maths.
- One roll, once per account — you cannot choose it, and re-rolling your character does not change it.
- Nepo Baby — ₦500,000 cash, a furnished Lekki flat with the rent already paid, a car, and a Branch Manager job from day one.
- LAPO Baby — a ₦60,000 loan that costs ₦72,000 to clear: ₦12,000 a week for 6 weeks.
- LAPO's compensation — Hustle starts at level 2, and every skill you learn grows 25% faster.
- Nepo skips the housing step — you move straight into the Lekki flat instead of choosing somewhere to live.
The two starts, side by side
| Nepo Baby | LAPO Baby | |
|---|---|---|
| In-game line | “Daddy knows people.” | “Self-made hits different.” |
| Starting cash | ₦500,000 | ₦60,000 |
| Debt | None | ₦72,000 (₦12,000/week) |
| Housing | Furnished Lekki flat, rent paid | Start in Mushin or Yaba |
| Vehicle | Yes — fuel only | None |
| Job on day one | Branch Manager | None — you apply |
| Skill bonus | None | Hustle at level 2, all skills +25% growth |
| Housing step | Skipped | You choose |
Nepo Baby: “Daddy knows people.”
The Nepo Baby roll gives you four perks, and they are all front-loaded — you get them before your first shift, with no work required:
- A fully furnished Lekki flat, with Daddy paying the rent. This is the big one, because rent is charged every Saturday and it is the cost the whole early game is built around. A Nepo Baby never has to plan around it.
- Your own car — you only buy fuel. Travel in Lagos Life costs money per kilometre, and this removes the purchase price from the equation entirely.
- Branch Manager at Daddy's friend's bank, from day one. In the careers table, Branch Manager is the third rung of Banking, paying ₦15,000 a shift — while the best entry-level pay in the whole game is ₦4,200. One shift as a Nepo Baby out-earns a LAPO Baby's entire weekly loan repayment.
- ₦500,000 pocket money — capital on day one.
LAPO Baby: “Self-made hits different.”
The LAPO Baby roll is modelled on a real Nigerian microfinance loan, and it is the harder start. Its four perks read like a list of compensations:
- ₦60,000 to start, repay ₦12,000 every week. The money lands in your account immediately; the repayment does not wait for you to be ready.
- Hustle skill starts at level 2 — you skip the first rung of skill growth.
- You learn every skill 25% faster. This is the one that matters most over a long account, because skill growth gates promotion and promotion roughly doubles your pay.
- Start in Mushin or Yaba and work your way to Lekki — the expensive housing tiers are locked, and the refusal is not subtle: “With LAPO money? 😂 Work your way here.”
What the LAPO loan actually costs
The loan is where most write-ups stop, because the maths is not shown in the game as a total. It is worth doing once:
| Loan arithmetic | Amount |
|---|---|
| Cash you receive | ₦60,000 |
| Total you repay | ₦72,000 |
| Weekly instalment | ₦12,000 |
| Weeks to clear | 6 |
| Cost of the loan | ₦12,000 (20%) |
Put that ₦12,000 next to the cheapest rent in the game — ₦2,400 a week in Mushin — and the loan is roughly five times your housing cost, every week, for six weeks. That is the real shape of a LAPO opening: your first month and a half is not about getting rich, it is about clearing the debt before it eats your run.
Can you choose or re-roll your starting class?
No, on both counts. You cannot pick it, and you cannot re-roll it. The game states the rule on the result screen: “Decided once for your account. Starting a new life won't change it.” The Randomise button on the character screen re-rolls your look and your name only — it does not touch the lottery, which is why players who dislike their roll report that randomising changes nothing.
The lottery is also a network call rather than a local calculation, so it can fail. When it does, the game gives you no class at all: “Couldn't reach the lottery right now, so [your Sim] starts self-made.” If you want to see your real roll, it is worth finishing creation on a stable connection.
Which start is easier?
Nepo Baby, and it is not close. You begin with more cash than the LAPO loan is even worth, no debt, no rent, free transport and a job that pays ₦15,000 a shift without a single promotion. Nothing about the LAPO perks matches that on day one.
But a LAPO roll is not a dead run, and the reason is the +25% skill growth. Because promotion roughly doubles your pay and skills gate promotion, a permanent 25% multiplier on skill gain is the one perk that keeps paying for the whole account. Clear the six weeks and you are playing the same game as everyone else — just with a head start on the ladder. Frequently asked questions
Can you choose your starting class in Lagos Life?
No. The birth lottery is rolled for you at the end of character creation, after you have picked your look, personality, dream and traits. You see the result on the spot and it is applied to your account immediately.
Can you re-roll the Lagos Life birth lottery?
No. The game says so directly on the result screen: "Decided once for your account. Starting a new life won't change it." The Randomise button on the character screen only re-rolls your appearance and name — it does not touch the lottery.
What happens if the birth lottery does not load?
You fall back to a self-made start with no perks. The lottery is a network request, so a failed call shows "Couldn't reach the lottery right now, so [your Sim] starts self-made." If the spin hangs, reloading is worth trying before you finish creation.
Is the LAPO Baby start a bad roll?
It is the harder of the two known rolls, but it is not a dead run. The loan is capped at six weeks of repayments, and in exchange you start with Hustle already at level 2 and learn every skill 25% faster — which compounds for the rest of the account.
