Lagos Life money guide: how to earn naira and survive Saturday
The economy in Lagos Life is not complicated, but the order you do things in matters enormously. This page ranks every income source in the game by what it actually pays.
The three income sources, in order
- Your salary. Per shift, gated by skill level. Biggest single jump available early, because promotion roughly doubles pay.
- Side businesses. Recurring income that does not consume your shift. Costs capital up front.
- Land. Appreciates over time. Does not pay income. A store of value, and the omo-onile levy can eat your gains.
Every career ranked by ceiling
All 14 careers have five levels and are driven by a single skill. The pay curve is steep: the top of a good ladder pays more than ten times the entry shift.
| # | Career | Skill | Entry pay | Top pay | Multiple |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | 🎤 Music | music | ₦2,700 | ₦66,000 | 24.4× |

What the ranking actually tells you
- Music (₦66,000) and DJ (₦62,000) have the highest ceilings, but both are night careers running Thursday–Sunday or similar. You will work while everyone else parties, and your Fun and Social needs take the hit. High ceiling, high lifestyle cost.
- Banking is the best early-game pick for most players. Highest entry pay (₦4,200), Monday–Friday, day shift, and Charisma — which Smooth Talker accelerates. It is the least disruptive path to a stable income.
- Tech has the simplest growth story. Coding is a skill you will use anyway, and the ladder from Intern (₦3,600) to CTO (₦51,000) is one of the cleanest.
- Content Creator pays worst in the game at ₦2,400 a shift. That is clearly a deliberate joke at the expense of the Lagos creator economy, and it is worth knowing before you pick it for the fantasy.
Side businesses ranked by profit per shift
Businesses are the second lever. Each one has a purchase price, a per-shift income range, running costs, and a chance of a bad day that costs you money. Here is what we measured, ranked by estimated net profit per shift:
| Business | Area | Price | Income / shift | Costs | Net (est.) |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| 🪩 Quilox Share (5%) | Victoria Island | ₦250,000,000 | ₦1,500,000–₦3,000,000 | ₦1,150,000 | ₦1,100,000 |
| 🎪 Event Centre | Ikoyi | ₦60,000,000 | ₦500,000–₦1,000,000 | ₦430,000 | ₦320,000 |
| 🧽 Car Wash | Lekki | ₦15,000,000 | ₦140,000–₦260,000 | ₦105,000 | ₦95,000 |
| 💈 Barbing Salon | Ikeja | ₦6,000,000 | ₦55,000–₦110,000 | ₦40,000 | ₦42,500 |
| 🍛 Buka (Mama Put) | Surulere | ₦2,500,000 | ₦25,000–₦50,000 | ₦18,000 | ₦19,500 |
| 🏧 POS Stand | Yaba | ₦500,000 | ₦4,000–₦9,000 | ₦2,000 | ₦4,500 |
How fast each business pays for itself
Profit per shift is not the same question as "how long until this is my money back". Take the same numbers and sort by how many shifts it takes to earn the purchase price back, and the order comes out almost exactly reversed:
| Business | Price | Net / shift | Shifts to pay back |
|---|---|---|---|
| 🏧 POS Stand | ₦500,000 | ₦4,500 | 111 |
| 🍛 Buka (Mama Put) | ₦2,500,000 | ₦19,500 | 128 |
| 💈 Barbing Salon | ₦6,000,000 | ₦42,500 | 141 |
| 🧽 Car Wash | ₦15,000,000 | ₦95,000 | 158 |
| 🎪 Event Centre | ₦60,000,000 | ₦320,000 | 188 |
| 🪩 Quilox Share (5%) | ₦250,000,000 | ₦1,100,000 | 227 |
The cheapest business in Lagos Life is also the fastest to pay for itself: 🏧 POS Stand at ₦500,000 earns its own price back in about 111 shifts, while Quilox Share (5%) at ₦250,000,000 needs roughly 227 — the longest of any business in the game, even though it pays more per shift than everything else combined. An expensive business is a way to store wealth you have already made, not a shortcut to making it.
The bad-day problem
Every business has a chance of a bad day, and the losses are not trivial. Two examples from the game's own data:
- POS Stand — network down all day. 10% chance, ₦4,500 loss. This is the most forgiving bad day in the game.
- Barbing Salon — "NEPA took light and the generator packed up." 8% chance, ₦42,500 loss.
- Car Wash — borehole pump breaks. 8% chance, ₦95,000 loss.
- Event Centre — a wedding gets cancelled. 10% chance, ₦320,000 loss.
Note the pattern: the more expensive the business, the bigger the bad-day loss in absolute terms — but the loss is a smaller share of income at the top end. The POS stand is the safest entry precisely because its worst day costs almost nothing.
The recommended order for a new player
- Take the cheapest housing you can stand (₦2,400/week in Mushin).
- Hold one week's rent in reserve at all times.
- Grind the skill your career needs until you get promoted at least twice.
- Buy a POS Stand (₦500,000) as your first asset.
- Only then consider furniture, vehicles, land, or moving house.
Land: appreciation, and the omo-onile trap
Land in Lagos Life is a store of value rather than an income stream. Prices grow over time, but the game models omo-onile — the local family levy that anyone who has bought land in Lagos knows about — as an explicit risk you pay on your gains.
| Location | Plot | Price | Growth | Omo-onile risk |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 🌴 Ikorodu | Half plot | ₦1,500,000 | 2.0% | 35% |
| 🌳 Epe | Full plot | ₦2,500,000 | 3.0% | 30% |
| 🏗️ Ibeju-Lekki | Full plot | ₦4,000,000 | 4.0% | 20% |
| 🏘️ Lekki Phase 2 | Full plot, C of O | ₦15,000,000 | 2.5% | 5% |
| 🏝️ Banana Island | Waterfront plot | ₦150,000,000 | 1.5% | None |
The trade-off is clean: Ikorodu is cheap and grows slowly but carries a 35% omo-onile risk. Lekki Phase 2 estate land with a Certificate of Occupancy costs ten times more, grows at a similar rate, and carries almost no risk. Banana Island waterfront has zero omo-onile and the slowest growth — you are paying for safety and status, not returns.
Vehicles: cutting travel cost
Vehicles cost money per kilometre, and the cheap ones cost more per km. They are a quality-of-life and time-saving purchase rather than an income source, but on a long game the savings add up.
| Vehicle | Price | Cost / km | Note |
|---|---|---|---|
| 🏍️ Bajaj Boxer "Your own okada" | ₦350,000 | ₦3 | Beat the go-slow for the price of small fuel. Rain go beat you sha. |
| 🚗 Toyota Corolla 2008 "Tokunbo Baby Boy" | ₦900,000 | ₦6 | Belgium-used, AC still blowing. Every Lagosian's first love. |
| 🚘 Honda Accord "Evil Spirit" | ₦1,800,000 | ₦7 | Fast, sleek, and every agbero knows the name. |
| 🚙 Toyota Camry "Muscle" | ₦3,000,000 | ₦7 | Big body, soft ride. Uncles respect this car. |
| 🚙 Lexus RX 350 "Big Boy Jeep" | ₦7,500,000 | ₦9 | Leather seats and a little bit of shakara at every gate. |
| 🚘 BMW 330i "Corporate Baller" | ₦9,500,000 | ₦9 | Sporty, clean and quiet. The bank manager's weekend car. |
| 🚙 Toyota Prado "Daddy's Prado" | ₦15,000,000 | ₦10 | Tinted, tall and serious. Security salutes you. |
| 🚙 BMW X5 "Bavarian Big Boy" | ₦28,000,000 | ₦11 | Big kidney grille, bigger presence. Lekki estates open the gate before you horn. |
Tax
Lagos Life has an income tax system with a weekly allowance and a dedicated tax panel, so your gross shift pay is not your take-home. We have deliberately not published specific bracket figures, because we could not verify them with confidence and the game is changing weekly — the tax panel in your own game is authoritative.
Frequently asked questions
How do I make money fast in Lagos Life?
Promotion is the fastest lever. A career promotion roughly doubles your per-shift pay, and the top level of a good career pays more than 10x the entry level. Skill growth gates promotion, and your starting trait speeds up the relevant skill. After that, side businesses add income without consuming your shift, and land appreciates over time.
What is the best career for money?
Music has the highest ceiling at ₦66,000 a shift as an Afrobeats Giant. DJ follows at ₦62,000. But Banking has the best starting pay (₦4,200) and is Monday–Friday, which makes it the best early-game pick for most players. Content Creator pays worst at ₦2,400 — a deliberate joke about the Lagos creator economy.
What is the best first business to buy?
The POS Stand in Yaba at ₦500,000. It is the cheapest business in the game and pays roughly ₦4,000–₦9,000 per shift against ₦2,000 of costs. Its bad day only costs ₦4,500, so the downside is small. It is the safest way to convert savings into recurring income.
Is land worth buying?
Land appreciates rather than paying income, so it is a late-game store of value, not an early-game earner. Watch the omo-onile risk, which the game models explicitly: it runs at 35% in Ikorodu, 30% in Epe, 20% in Ibeju-Lekki, 5% on Lekki Phase 2 estate land and 0% on a Banana Island waterfront plot.
